Just 10 minutes drive from Grahamstown you can visit Thomas Baines Nature Reserve. Pack a basket and have a picnic at the dam. The Rhino known as Big Tom had the longest recorded horn in the Southern Hemisphere. He was tragically killed by the female Rhino after he killed their calf in 2005.
It is only a one hour's drive to Fort Hare University which houses the African National Congress's archives, Nelson Mandela's bead collection and a wonderful collection of work done by African artists.
